Even the “Nerds” have comments on Mattamy!!!

alphainventions

Surprising where you will find information concerning builders and the problems associated with them.  I was visiting the “ANANDTECH” forum , which focuses on computer and tech issues.

In their SOCIAL – Off Topic section I found a thread focused on wiring issues in a home.  All I can say is that I’m glad I don’t live in a home similar to those described in this thread.

And, it appears someone with Mattamy issues felt it necessary to comment.

Kommander Kink from Toronto commented:

“That sounds like the homes built by “Mattamy Homes” here in Ontario, they are built the most flimsy way possible, even their own bricklayers told me not to buy homes from this building company.”

I’m not surprised about the bricklayers’ comment considering the other comments I have received from the trades in relation to Mattamy.  And based on what I read in this forum, you are talking about people who know their electrical stuff.  Much more than the guy who hot-wired my furnace to the house next door to allow the sale to go through.

Illegal (code) wiring?

His boss thought so but the ex-mayor of Oakville didn’t feel it worthwhile to actually pursue.

Oh, I forgot.

She was pursuing Mattamy for a donation to Wellspring

 What’s that old saying”?
Some need to be sacrificed for the betterment of the whole.  I guess Mattamy follows that principle.  Not all get the good service promised in the ads.

P.S.  The use of NERD in the title is used with some affection.

Does Mattamy Homes discriminate???

alphainventions

Some feel that my blog is too negative towards Mattamy but, considering how they have treated not only myself but others, it is hard to be kind.

Here is one link though that shows what Mattamy is capable of – just trying to figure out how to motivate them to this unbelievable height.

If you go to “Cool Ravings” you see that Mattamy did the following for a homeowner:

What Mattamy has done post move in is this:

  • Rebuilt or cultured stone fireplace. (it was too big)
  • Re-shingled our roof. (wrong colour)
  • Re-painted our interior (poor paint job)
  • Installed missing coach lights outside.
  • Added missing brick over window and door on front of house. (They had flashing in place)
  • Re installed our hardwood flooring in main hall and re installed the ceramic tile in garage to powder room areas.
  • Turned our French doors around in our office/den because they opened into the dining room rather than the office as per the plan.  This also meant that the transition on the floor needed to be changed going from hardwood to carpet.  So they’re putting in a granite threshold for us.
  • Plus a multiple of patch/fixes throughout the house that are almost all taken care of.

Myself, I’d love to tell you how my case was treated but can’t due to the GAG ORDER.  You’ll note, if you visit their blog, that they feel that the trades are to blame for the problems and that Mattamy has been good to them.  This, I am glad to see.  But it raises the question:  if they can do good for this homeowner, what happened to the rest of us?  I know in my case, they broke the law, so they won’t be too forthcoming with corrective work based on what their lawyers have probably told them.

But what about those I have had comments from?  Why not them?

In my Bully Boy Blog, two homeowners are obviously being shafted royally, which you can read from the comment section.  One with window problems (hey, I understand you there on that) and another on water stain problems.  It appears, from the comments that Mattamy is squealing like a pig and trying to slide under the responsibility fence concerning these problems.

So, why would these two people be discriminated against in terms of good service in comparision to Cool Ravings.  What’s the secret??

Mattamy Homes – how do they shape up with other builders?

I did my own JD Powers style survey today but, before you look at the results, I must admit they are not as scientific as what JD Powers would have done (or expected that they did) but, I found the results interesting.

I did a google search on “company name PROBLEMS”.   I.E. Mattamy problems.  If I got no response from google (I did for Mattamy), I would then add the word “builder”, especially if I got things totally unconnected to the builder in my first search.  These results are only on a 1 page search and the numbers do not reflect multiple problems discussed in a forum, just the one hit on the forum.

Based on this, I got the following results:

  1. Mattamy            4
  2. Ballantry            1
  3. Minto                 1
  4. Brookfield          1
  5. Arista                 1
  6. Great Gulf          0
  7. Daniels Group    0

It is interesting that the company that got the highest award from JD Powers for customer satisfaction had the largest number of problem entries on Google when I searched builders.  For the record, I did not include any complaint that I might have posted.

As you can see more than Mattamy Homes do have problems and therefore I would still consider hiring a house inspector to monitor construction.  Just that with some builders with more problems, you might get more value from hiring the house inspector.
