R.I.P – Paul Oberman, Heritage Developer

Paul Oberman, noted as a “heritage developer” in Toronto, was killed in a plane crash while enroute to Quebec City from Halifax.  As President of Woodcliffe Properties, he was a developer that wanted to save the past and renew it for future generations.  “Historic buildings integrating old and new are, for me, the lifeblood of a city.  If we don’t care about renewing our historic buildings, if we don’t care about preserving them by finding new uses for them, what will we care about?”  Catherine Nasmith, an architect and heritage newsletter publisher, saw him as the “kind of person you call when a property needed some TLC”.

One of his accomplishments was the restoring of the “Flatiron” Building.
