Update: Mike Holmes – not a fan of Mattamy I think.

I’ve been reading a particular forum that has focused on the Mike Holmes show mentioned in the previous blog.  Well worth visiting for getting more information on the topic and seeing different points of views.

One thing is sure – house inspectors are a must, and this from someone in the forum who is a contractor himself.

I should note one fact.  One issue in the Holmes show was the fact that the dryer vent was disconnected and there was a great potential for mould and fire from this imperfection.  One person noted that since this is the 2nd owner, it is quite possible that when the other owners moved out and pulled out their dryer, they could have disconnected the vent accidentally.  The amount of lint, etc that accumulated in the house space might tell how long this was disconnected and thus confirm or deny if this was in fact a builder fault.

But, whether you are buying new from a builder or a resale, it is obvious this is something you or your building inspector should check.

And, there was an interesting topic about “municipal inspectors“.  It might explain why my house ended up with illegal (code) wiring that allowed the sale to be finalized.

Who knows?

Only Mattamy and the inspector.
