Will donation give Mattamy favours?

As noted in my previous posting, Peter Gilgan generously (?) donated 1% of his approximate $1Billion worth to the Oakville Hospital Fund. It is a good sum but, in terms of his overall wealth, not a lot. Most of you reading this could probably donate 1% of your overall wealth but, if like me, it wouldn’t go as far as his donation but, in terms of equal representation of financial standing, just as important a donation. I am sure all the Gilgan and Mattamy supporters will show this as representing his good for the community and will disbelieve or ignore all the problems he has caused in people’s lives. Money buys loyalty.

In my case, then Mayor Ann Mulvale decided not to do anything concerning Mattamy’s installation of illegal wiring that affected my children’s lives while pushing for a donation from Mattamy for Wellspring. Worthwhile donation but at what cost?  Children’s lives vs good project.

And what will Peter’s donation cost us in terms of upcoming decisions regarding development in Halton. Was $10million enough Peter? We mustn’t forget the $750,000 to Milton’s theatre. What will that buy in Milton in terms of land development?

Do I sound cynical? Yes, because those of us who bought Mattamy Homes found that some were sub-standard and downright dangerous but no one really did anything. (Except for charging Mattamy for the environmental damage in Ottawa) Donations buy a lot of acceptance. In my case, Mattamy probably saved over $100,000 by the Town of Oakville accepting their illegal (code) wiring.

And, do you think I am the only one who has suffered the Mattamy treatment? Reading my blog will show you a plethora of issues that Mattamy is guilty of. After reading the following letter I received, you will understand why I nominate the following:  The Peter Gilgan Colonoscopy Wing in the new Oakville Hospital.  My own colonoscopy was much less invasive and painless than what Mattamy did to me.

All I can say is that Mattamy should be fined for what they did to us in Kanata Fairwinds. After years of waiting, we finally gave up we handed over $25k deposit and did not get anything but our deposit. Frank Cairo actually had the nerve to tell me that since the prime rate was low, we should get negative interest. We’re just so pissed with their unfair practice. Frank Cairo, a president of this company….what a joke.

They sold us the house in 2008 and never said anything about the situation that has been going on a few years earlier in regards to status of the land. Anyways don’t trust mattamy. Talk to the people that live in mattamy homes. Actually just do a drive around their houses quality you will see for yourself. I wish I can turn back time and have bought else where. I guess this is where “MAD AT MY HOME” comes from. They play with peoples lives. There should be a major lawsuit or a LAW written to protect buyers for future unfair and BRUTAL practices that builder gamble on peoples lives. You do not sell houses prior to getting approved. If i had the money, I would have taken them to court. YOU SHOULD NOT PLAY WITH PEOPLES LIVES!

  1. That letter says it all. Some people seem to think that a builder is “playing with their lives.” To them you are no more than a dollar sign. They don’t care about you or your life. Just the money. Once people start to realize that then they may start to demand more from builders.

How about the public starting to demand that builders not sell lots until all infrastructure is in place and permits to begin building are obtained? That would be good but there are too many dumb people out there who walk into a model home and fall for all the standard BS. Then they defend the builder until they finally get crapped on and realize everything they have been told was all lies. It’s too late then.

People like this have nobody to blame but themselves. Many people were warned about Phase 5 in Ottawa but still chose to buy. I remember 1 person saying something like “Phase 5 will get built shortly. Frank told me so personally. To think otherwise is simply naive.” 2 weeks later Mattamy was giving back deposits. Do you think Frank just found out in those 2 weeks? HA! Not bloody likely.

Until consumers demand more and smarten up…we will get the exact same results we are seeing now.

  2. Fascinating piece. Thought it was a pretty good read and clearly thought provoking. I didn’t go along with everything you had to convey regarding the topic, but on the whole, I think overall you affirmed your own point nicely. Simply reckoned I might chime along with a remark here. Look forward to the next, fascinating article
