Politicians – do they help build the voter’s community or the developers?

Drive anywhere in our area and you are inundated with the election signs promoting someone for the upcoming municipal elections.  Some of the names you know from past exposure and others, are new to the game.  Some have agendas, not necessarily to benefit you, the voter and others, have shown that they care for the community and fairness for all.  The newcomers – well, they are the dark horses and no one knows what they will do if elected.  Unless, of course, you find out who is donating to them.  Is it the average Joe that is giving them money or big business, like the local development companies in your area?

You tend to buy a house because of the floor plan, the cost and LOCATION.  Yes, you look for the type of community that will help turn that house into a home and somewhere you can bring up a family.  Unfortunately, politicians and local developers can change the very nature of the community you moved into and it is usually to line their pockets with more money.

I was drawn to the Oakville area, like a lot of others, due to the downtown area and the built environment.  Little did we know that developers like Mattamy were going to change the face of our environment and not necessarily in a positive way.  And, to hell with the buyer and voter.  Illegal (code) wiring was nothing to Mattamy, nor to the then mayor, Ann Mulvale.  The environment meant nothing to Mattamy since they tried to build on land fertilized with human waste.

One of???

No – look how they built an illegal berm in the Ottawa area but were caught.  They have no problem doing what they want – just donate money to whomever and go ahead.  Wellspring got their donation and I know nothing happened to my issue.

Thanks to Ann Mulvale.  I’m looking forward to passing out informatin brochures at the upcoming political rallys/meetings.

So, watch who is running and wonder why.  The incumbent, Rob Burton, has at least a good track record for the last 4 years.  Mattamy tried to take him and some other politicians on with the Development ChargesMattamy even took buseloads of their people off the work sites and flooded the local council chambers and adjoining meeting rooms to try to stop what was a fair plan for the taxpayer.  For those waiting for a house, kind of shows just how important you were – two days taken off to fight city hall and the taxpayer.

Ann Mulvale has a track record – in my case, didn’t do anything about the illegal (code) wiring which allowed the sale of a home and put children at risk.  No slap on the wrist, a hidden investigation and, because of a litigation fear concerning the Town’s culpability in regards to passing the furnace, did nothing to improve the situation and prevent further occurrences.  I wonder how many other things she did for developers?  Sorry Ann, but mine is a matter of record – the stain is still there.

So, read the signs, peruse the propaganda and then remember – who really looked after the voter and not the developer, special interests and promoted donations.
